It was a rainy Monday evening when Leyla left the office, exhausted and drained. The sound of raindrops mixed with honking horns from the rush hour traffic. The smell of wet soil offered her a strange sense of comfort.
Leyla felt humiliated. Once again, she had failed to meet her sales targets. The words of Mr. Adil from the meeting echoed painfully in her mind:
“Ms. Leyla, it’s time to pull ourselves together. Because when someone stops being useful, they start becoming harmful.”
Mr. Adil had overlooked her underperformance many times because Leyla was someone who tried hard in her own way. The problem was that her efforts were often misdirected. She would rush to help others, spend time at colleagues' desks, and be the most liked team member, but she was failing below of her own goals.
She struggled to focus, easily distracted, pulled away from what truly mattered. Over time, this lack of discipline led her further from her objectives.
That evening, instead of heading straight home, Leyla took a short walk through the park across the street. Her eyes caught the sight of pruned trees, stripped of their leaves in the heart of autumn. It made her think.
Trees are pruned to grow healthier in the next season...
Though it might look like damage from the outside, it’s actually the removal of branches that no longer serve the tree…
Just like that, maybe we too need to let go of people, environments, and obligations that no longer contribute to our growth. Maybe it’s okay to say “No”, to prioritize what really matters.
When we move away from what harms us, we get closer to what heals us. In time, we too will bloom — just like a tree.
But when is the right time to prune? In the fall — because that’s when the tree pulls back its energy from its branches and focuses solely on its roots.
For us, this may be the moment when everything seems to be falling apart — the time to turn inward and realign with our true goals.
As Leyla walked, her mind began to get clear. Answers started to fall to her mind.
So, do we have branches in our lives that keep us from focusing on our goals?
If so… maybe now is pruning season.
Let’s cut away what holds us back — the distractions, the energy drains, the unnecessary weight we carry.
It’s time to get ready to bloom again.
